The 1999 Artshare series was a conceptual printmaking project designed to question the relationship of value and commodity in a work of art. It consisted of 800 printed Artshares sold through artshare.com for $5 each in an Initial Public Offering in May of 1999. The shares could then be returned during 2004 for double the IPO price. The project thus presented the Shareholder with a decision: whether to view the Artshare -- the actual printed artifact -- as a financial vehicle or an artistic investment, or possibly both.

Over the past five years many site visitors have been disappointed to discover that there were no shares available for purchase because the project had sold out so shortly after it was launched.

Now, however, a limited number of shares have been returned by shareholders and are being offered for sale to those interested in collecting a piece of this conceptual art project. The shares are in perfect condition and will be sold in pairs so that the front and back may both be displayed. The price for each set is $50. Shipping and handling is included.

This offer is directed at those interested in the shares as printed artifacts of the Artshare Project. The contractual aspect of these shares have already been fulfilled by the shareholder who chose the return value of the share over its artistic or market value.
